Jim Champman receives award at Yankee Sportsman's Classic

ESSEX JUNCTION -- One of the most familiar and respected faces at shooting ranges and sportsmen's clubs across Vermont was honored Jan. 17 at the 18th annual Yankee Sportsman's Classic in Essex Junction.

Gov. Jim Douglas presented the Sporting Heritage Service Award to Jim Chapman of South Burlington for his many years of volunteer service on behalf of Vermont's sporting community.

A long-time hunter education teacher, shooting instructor, and volunteer at numerous rod and gun clubs, Chapman, 80, is best known for his skills as a trap and skeet coach and his ability raise funds to support club projects. He has also been actively involved with the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs for almost two decades, during which time he held almost every office.

At the awards ceremony, Chapman was praised by several speakers for his generosity, devotion, and willingness to tackle any job.
